CHRISTMAS IN SAVAGE BAY Snippet . . .
The characters in this scene:
Kara Sinclair and Reed Savage along with Iain MacLeod, Kara's new step-brother and Cindy, Kara's best friend.  Logan Sinclair, Kara's brother is also mentioned.
What's happening:
Kara, Reed, and Cindy are taking Iain on a tour of Savage Bay.  They've stopped to have lunch at the Bay Bakery and Cafe.  Kara and Cindy have left the table to help themselves to coffee and are discussing the men.  Cindy would really like to see Iain in a kilt.  We pick this up when Cindy and Kara return to the table...

“Cindy wants you guys in kilts," Kara said.  "She [wants to know] if Logan could loan Iain one of his.”
Reed and Iain exchanged glances, but it was Iain who spoke.  “I’d not wear the Sinclair tartan.  I’m a MacLeod.”
Kara groaned.  “Oh no.”
“Rightly so,” Reed said.  “Of course, if someone makes off with your clothes, you’ll wear anything.”  He stole Cindy’s pickle.
“What should I wear?” Cindy asked.
While Cindy and Iain determined what tartan would be appropriate for a woman whose heritage was one eighth Pequot, two eighths French, and five eighths the Bronx, Kara offered Reed the pie server.
He shook his head, bending close to put his mouth near her ear.  His breath was warm on her skin.  “I’m thinking I’ll have La Perla tart later.”
Heat kindled in her core, but he needed to be taken down a peg.  She waved her hand as if shooing a fly near her ear.  “Aren’t you the one who said tart meant slut?  You’re not seeing any La Perla with that kind of remark.”
“Oh, shit.  I did, didn’t I?”
He grabbed a handful of her hair and pulled her close.  This time, his lips briefly touched her ear.  He flicked over its curve with his tongue.  “So wear JC Penney, and I promise to apologize in the nicest possible way.”
Her heart began to hammer in her chest.  She threw caution to the wind.
Naughty.  I want to be on the naughty list.

Does Kara get her wish?
Will she be on Santa's Naughty List?
Will Reed get to see Kara's La Perla lingerie?
Find out!

Recipe #6
Holiday Tarts
This is a bit of a joke recipe as I really don't make any individual part of it . . . but as someone who is NOT good at making pie crust, this is how I make my holiday tarts!
You will need a tart pan.  This is mine.  It's ancient.

Ingredients:
Ready made pie crust (or a pie crust mix, or if you are a competent baker, make your own crust, enough for a 2 crust pie)
Pie fillings of your choice.  I use mince pie filling in a jar (I like the kind with rum and brandy) and lemon curd (this can be found in the specialty foods aisle of the grocery store or with the jams).

Directions:
Make your pie crust.  Choose a glass that is about an inch larger than the depressions in the tart pan.  Cut rounds of pastry, lay them in the tart pan and bring up the sides and pinch them to make a fluted edge.  Dock the pastry (Poke with fork tines, but not so deep you make holes.)  Docking keeps the crust from lifing during baking.  Bake the tarts empty until they are golden brown using time and temperature recommended by your pastry recipe/package.  Take the tart pan out of the oven and immediately fill the shells with your favorite pie fillings such as the mince and lemon I suggested.  Put the tart pan back in the oven for a few minutes until the filling warms and "settles" into the crusts.  Make sure the crusts do not over brown.  Cool in the tart pan and then remove gently to a serving platter.  These little tarts were favorites of my father.

  4. I really like mince pies. I still prefer the M&S ones as opposed to all the others.

  5. I would love it if I could get them here in Philly, but I haven't seen them anywhere. I must confess that I have bought a jar, not made a pie and then just eaten the filling with a spoon...but not all in one day :)
