What's going on here??

This is my 12 Days of Christmas Blog Giveaway:

Recipe #8
Poached Pears
If you read LORD OF SWORDS you will understand why I've included this recipe!
Ingredients:

4 firm pears
2 Tablespoons butter
1-1/2 cups good red wine
3/4 cup sugar
1 cinnamon stick
2 Tablespoons fresh lemon juice (can also add the zest)
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Directions:
Peel the 4 pears.  Cut in half and core.  Melt butter in a deep frying pan.  Place pear halves face down and brown in the butter. Remove pears and set aside.  Add the red wine, sugar, vanilla, and lemon juice (can also add the lemon zest as well).  Heat on low, stirring, until sugar dissolves.  Add a cinnamon stick and the pears to wine mixture and cover.  Poach pears until they are fork tender and heated through.  Discard the cinnamon stick, set pears aside.  Raise heat and cook wine sauce until syrupy.  Drizzle over the pears.  Can also  sprinkle with almonds.
